History

Electricity

Before privatisation, London's electricity supply was managed and distributed by the 'London Electricity Board'. The company was founded in 1948 as part of the nationalisation of the elctricity industry; however, was privatised in 1990 through the Electricity Act 1989 imposed by the Thatcher government. After this point it became 'London Electricity plc', yet was acquired by American 'Entergy' and then EDF again in 1998.

Gas

The 'North Thames Gas Board' was established in 1949, supplying London of its gas requirements until 1973, when it was dissolved to become a region of the British Gas Corporation.
